Director of Seanse ArtCenter, Norway

Marit is the director of Seanse Art Center, based in Volda, Norway, a center supporting quality in arts and for children and youth, and others. From 2004-2017, Seanse has altogether hosted more than 500 artists in residence, 30 conferences, workshops and seminars, and supported and mentored about 250 art productions. Since 2011, Marit has directed Seanse Art Center's work in bringing Teaching Artist practices to Norway, as a national initiative. This has led to Seanse facilitating and mentoring art programs in many education and community institutions in Norway. She has also developed a Teaching Artist coursework giving university credits, so far being offered three times with her as the responsible teacher.

Marit is Associate Professor in Theater, with education from NTNU in Norway, the University of Minnesota, USA, and Queensland University of Technology, Australia. She has invented and researched a theater method called echo theater, and her practice-led PhD included contextual and theory studies as well as fieldwork project with students in 2 nd and 5 th degrees.

The study found that work with Echo Theater supports the development of performative and narrative competencies in students. The effectiveness of the method is dependent on the teaching artist's artistic knowledge, ability to engage and a holistic and reflective attitude towards the students.Besides being a mentor of art production, Marit has experience as a theater director, storyteller, university lecturer and conference leader. She is invited to share, teach and mentor on an international basis. Her focus is as a researcher and director of Seanse revolves around arts in education, teaching artistry, art programs in educational and social institutions, theater practice, and international relations.
