Description of the work

‘The Experts’ is a theatre performance. Non-scripted. A group of primary school children presents a ‘vision of the possible’. A world view that is as realistic as it is imaginary. They have something to tell, they bring along their successful pasts and their hopes for the future. They are not ‘half-grown’. They know what is at stake.

During eight half days and one full week, a diverse group of children between 8 and 10 years old put on the mantle of an expert. They are given the power and responsibility that go with the job and bear the consequences of their decisions. In the fiction.

‘The Experts’ is part of the PhD research project in the arts of teaching artist Bob Selderslaghs at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp (Belgium). This teaching art performance is a first step towards a balanced methodology that focuses on process as well as on result in dramatic work with children.
