¿Why climate justice?

The concept of "climate justice" arises at a time when we realize climate change has and will have an environmental, social and even economic impact that will affect everyone differently.

In studies on vulnerability to climate change, it has been found that the countries most affected by global warming and in which its consequences will be felt most intensely deeper (desertification, droughts, floods, migration and other extreme events) are the ones who less contributed to the climate impacts and have restrict access to different resources for mitigating it.

Adding to it, there are some social effects of climate change, such as health problems, increased financial burdens, loss of food & water security and other cultural and social changes. These consequences will firstly affect certain human communities, such as minority groups, with fewer economic resources, indigenous nations, children, youth and women. In this way, the climate emergency is also a matter of human rights and environmental justice.

Climate justice seeks the fair treatment of all people, living beings and countries, as well as avoiding decisions and projects that encourage more violence and destruction. Doing the opposite of dealing with the climate crisis. It is one of the most relevant concept of this era, even more so when those most affected by anthropogenic climate change are the least responsible for the greenhouse gas emissions that have caused the problem and, instead, the living standards that have generated global warming are those that Fewer would suffer its direct consequences, although they will do so indirectly.

The idea of climate justice, in any case, is to promote a just transition to a sustainable, fossil fuel-free future, without discrimination, while protecting the most vulnerable people, countries and environment from the impacts of climate change.
